Explore the beautiful Mossy Forest, awe-inspiring tea plantation and witness the rare sight of the endangered Rafflesia flower!
Our adventure kicks start with an hour-long drive towards the rainforest. From the starting point, it is an approximately 2-hour long trek through lowland rainforest to reach the biggest flower in the world, the Rafflesia. Along the journey, you can admire the lush forest encompassing flowering plants, giant wild ginger, giant bamboo plants and medicinal plants among them.
The Rafflesia is a unique and mysteriously alluring plant. No roots or leaves can be spotted as it is a parasitic plant and may even give off a pungent odour of rotting flesh when in bloom, and hence its nickname, the ‘corpse flower’. The Rafflesia can weigh up to 10kg and grow to over a meter in diameter. Contrary to popular belief, the world’s largest flower is not only found in Borneo and Sumatra but can also be found in Cameron Highlands. It is one of the rarest plants in the world.
After witnessing the rare flower, we will head towards the Orang Asli Village and be exposed to the native lifestyle of the Semai tribe. As you approach the village, you can see the traditional bamboo huts that are built on stilts by the native villagers. The Orang Aslis build their houses using only wood, bamboo and palm leaves. Feel free to interact with the native people as they are usually very welcoming and will even take pictures with you. Learn to use a blowpipe, an effective weapon, from the blowpipe demonstration by the Orang Asli. Sometimes, they will even perform their traditional swing dance to bamboo music. Pay a visit to the nearby waterfall where you will discover some medicinal plants used by the native people in their daily lives.
Our exciting adventure continues towards the highest peak in Cameron Highlands, Mount Brinchang (as high as 2,031 metres above sea level), on a four-wheel drive. When we reach the top you will be rewarded with the most stunning view, stretching as far as Malacca on a good day. The scenic beauty can be further enhanced from the observation tower. Marvel at the sight of the different species of birds that soar through the sky at the peak.
Next up, an experience not to be missed is the Mossy Forest. Also known as the Cloud Rainforest, prepare to discover some of the most exotic flora nature has to offer as we trek through the lush forest, such as orchids, primitive ferns, spices, pitcher plants and medicinal plants. Being an ideal biotope to house moss, ferns, lichen and other flora, this moist tropical rainforest is also home to many fauna such as snakes, frogs, birds, and other interesting animals that are unique to its cooling environment.
As you stroll along the trail, take in the enchanting atmosphere of this dewy tropical rainforest and its strong ancient trees boasting the lush greenery wrapped around its bodies. After exploring the charming Mossy Forest, we will journey down to the Sungei Palas Boh Estate.
Explore the factory at the tea plantation where the tea making process is explained and demonstrated such as sorting and drying the tea leaves. You can read about the history, how the tea plantation was founded by J.A. Russel, a British businessman in 1929 and stages of tea processing. Grasp this opportunity to purchase the lovely tea products and souvenirs at the shop to enjoy when you’re back home, especially if you are a tea lover!
Don’t forget to head towards BOH Tea Cafe where this restaurant-cum-viewing deck offers a tranquil and refreshing ambience as you enjoy a cup of warm tea and the mesmerising panoramic view. Immerse yourself in this captivating experience as you wait for your scrumptious strawberry tart and buttery scones.
*NOTE: Mossy Forest will be closed until 15th January 2021. The Mossy Forest portion of the tour will be changed to take place at Jason Trail (part of the area of Mossy Forest, but without wooden platforms and will be more hiking based).
