Get to see the Komodo dragon and other wildlife as you explore Rinca Island’s forests and see Batu Cermin Cave’s reflective mirror-like walls!
Day 1 – Denpasar / Labuan Bajo / Rinca Island / Labuan Bajo
Once you land safely at Komodo Airport, located in the west of Flores in Labuan Bajo, meet up with your tour representative who will serve as your guide. Your guide will drive you to the Labuan Bajo pier to embark on a boat ride to Rinca Island. The journey should take about 2 and a half hours from pier to island. Upon arrival on the island, your guide will take you along on a trek that brings you through the dry forests of the island to explore the wildlife that reside there.
One of the most notable animals that makes its home on the island is the Komodo dragon, a formidable predator. It is the largest living species of lizard in the entire world and is extremely strong and heavy. Endemic to only a few specific islands in Indonesia, it is an animal worth visiting to see it with your own eyes at least once in your lifetime. Do not go near them on your own as they can be very dangerous creatures when disturbed or provoked.
Other animals like deer, water buffalo, long-tailed macaques, pigs and numerous species of tropical birds also make their homes on the island, so keep an eye out for them as well while you go about on your exploratory trek. Spare a glance up at the overhead branches of trees every now and then as you may spot some birds, macaques or even a young Komodo dragon! In the late afternoon, set sail on an open deck boat that will take you to Kalong Island to view to sunset and Flying Foxes emerging from mangrove trees. Enjoy a dinner onboard then head back to your hotel in Labuan Bajo to rest.
Day 2 – Labuan Bajo / Denpasar
Have your breakfast at the hotel then embark on a short sightseeing tour of the city. Your first stop is Batu Cermin (Mirror Stone) Cave. Batu Cermin is a limestone cave that has reflective and smooth stone walls on the inside. Light shines in through a large hole and bounces off the walls, creating the effect of a mirror reflecting light. When you’re done with your sightseeing here, head on over to a local market which is your last stop before you catch your return flight.
